The following topic will be covered:

  • Introduction to the Russian alphabet and Russian sounds
  • Key words and phrases (including greetings and addressing someone, introductions, personal information, asking for directions)
  • Basic structures/grammar of the language (genders of nouns, plural of nouns and adjectives)
  • Numbers
  • Vocabulary building
  • Ongoing practice through listening, reading, writing and engaging in dialogues in a group environment
  • Cultural references to assist in understanding the application of Russian in everyday life

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Read and write the Russian alphabet and words learnt during the course;
  •  Understand and use basic phrases to greet people and introduce themselves;
  • Use the present tense of some verbs;
  • Engage in simple conversations and exchange personal information about their names, nationality, telephone numbers, asking for detections;
  • Understand basic counting and numerical forms in Russian;
  • Commence understanding the grammar structure behind the content learnt in a friendly and collaborative learning environment;
  • Gain basic background information on some values and customs of Russian-speaking communities.

No prior knowledge of Russian required
