  • Houses: describing rooms and furniture
  • Ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.)
  • Using hay and estar to describe what and where things are
  • Definite and indefinite articles
  • Making a hotel reservation
  • Ordering at a restaurant
  • Expressing likes and dislikes
  • Understanding and giving directions
  • Asking favours
  • Describing neighbourhoods
  • Differences between verbs ser and estar
  • Making appointments with friends
  • Talking about actions in progress

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • engage in simple conversations and exchange information about family, work, daily routine, houses, neighbourhoods, hobbies and personal interests;
  • use courteous oral expressions for giving thanks and apologising;
  • demonstrate basic knowledge of some social customs;
  • write about topics such as family, work, actions in progress, houses, neighbourhoods and hobbies.

Spanish: Elementary 1 or equivalent to about 20 hours of previous study.
